Skating: Uganda Skating Federation turns focus to Olympic qualifiers, more support needed

After holding a successful Olympics qualifying Championships at Mukono Xtreme park which saw 15 athletes qualify for the Skate and Park Olympics qualifiers in various countries across the world, the Uganda Skating Federation turned much focus on shaping the squad to represent the country as they vie for slots at the 2024 Olympic games.

The Uganda Skateboard team is currently in Rome where they are taking part in the world street skateboarding tour 2023 which started on the 16th June and will commence today Monday 26th June with the four athletes eager to gain qualifying points as they are still in the queue to the qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Team Uganda is represented by Nsubuga. Gerald, Bukenya Brian, Muwonge Calvin, Mwesigwa Douglas and the president Ddungu Moses who thanked the National Council for Sports. (NCS) and the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) for their immense support towards their qualifying campaigns.

“We thank National council of sports, Uganda Olympic committee, Italian embassy Kampala for all the support they are giving us to see the skateboarding team qualify for Paris 2024 Olympic games.” Said Moses Ddungu the Uganda Skating Federation president.

Team Uganda also took part in the world park skateboarding tour San Juan Argentina from 20th to 29 may 2023 as it was represented by Nsubuga Gerald, Ddungu Moses, Serunjogi Rashid, Mugisha Ibrahim and Kanyike Travor.

The president Moses Ddungu went ahead to plead for more support from the National Council for Sports and the Olympic Committee as they are heading into a busy schedule with the qualifying events coming close to each other.

“We were part of the world park skateboarding tour in San Juan and the NCS supported us so much but we have many upcoming qualifying events which are close to each other, we pray that National Council of Sports and Uganda Olympic Committee can still supports us in the upcoming events.”

The team Uganda will participate in the world street skateboarding tour in Lausanne, Switzerland in September before participating in the world park skateboarding tour in Rome, Italy later in October.

They will again have to travel to Japan for the world street skateboarding tour in Japan in the month of December. 

All these tour’s are the path way for the skateboarding team of Uganda to qualify for Paris 2024 Olympic games.
