Mawokota who look more of the title contenders defeated tye defending champions Busiro in the opening match of the Masaza Cup final at Wankulukuku Stadium.
Mawokota came from a goal down to claim a massive 3-1 victory Infront of the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II in a filled up Muteesa II Stadium.
Akram Muzanyi’s early penalty put the hosts Infront but it was cancelled out a well constructed goal from the Mawokota side which was scored by Abubaker Mayanja in the 39th minute before midfielder John Innocent Kisolo scored a beauty to give put the visitors in a deserved lead.
The 2022 Masaza Cup MVP Akram Muzanyi had an opportunity to level the scores before halftime but his effort from the second penalty went wide as Busiro went into the break behind with a 2-1 score.
With Busiro dominating the second half, they created a couple of goal scoring opportunities but they could find the back of the net in a well organized Mawokota defence hence succumbing to a late goal from Calvin Peter Emayo which ensured maximum points to Mawokota.
The Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II opened up the tournament as he was welcomed by the Katikiro and the sponsors of the 2023 Masaza Cup sponsors.
