Masaza Cup: Busiro to host opening match at Wankulukuku

The 19th edition of the Masaza Cup 2023 will officially kickoff on Saturday 24th June at Wankulukuku Stadium as defending champions Busiro will host the opening game at Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku.

This has been announced at a press briefing held at Bulange plaza in Mengo on Tuesday 30th May as the defending champions Busiro will host Mawokota in the opening group game.

The opening game of the 2023 Masaza Cup games will be graced by His Majesty the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi and this has been the main reason for the change in Venue as Busiro had already registered Kabaka Kyabagu Stadium as their home ground.

Kabaka Kyabagu Stadium in Wakiso was turned down by the organising committee due to the capacity it holds with the committee expecting a huge turn up at the event which will be graced by the Kabaka hence opting for Wankulukuku Stadium.

The 2023 Masaza Cup games will be played under the theme ‘Men in the Fight against HIV/AIDS to save the girl child’.

Sulaiman Ssejengo and Henry Ssekabembe Kiberu

“We have decided to take the opening game to Wankulukuku due to various issues concerning our stadiums in the country, Busiro are the hosts of the opening game and will receive all privileges as hosts of the game despite being held in Kyadondo at Wankulukuku.” Said Henry Ssekabembe Kiberu

There will be a total of 104 games played in the 2023 Masaza Cup edition with the finals expected to be played on the 28th October 2023 at Wankulukuku Stadium.
