Vipers coach Robertinho speaks about his team’s CAF Champions League draw

Vipers coach Robertinho Oliveira has spoken out after his side learnt the route they will have to use to get through to the CAF Champions League group stages for the first time.

The Venoms in a draw held this week learnt that they will have to first get past Olympic de Bangui of Central African Republic.

Robertinho said that he has less knowledge about this side. However as football is so tricky, it might not have to have lots of history to put up a spirited performance.

“We trust our team and our way of playing and are ready for these matches,” said Robertinho to Vipers Media.

“Our opponents don’t have a lot of history in this competition, and they don’t have a lot of information but, all we have to do is continue getting ready for any challenge,” the Brazilian coach added.

Robertinho expects the tougher test to be presented by DR Congo giants TP Mazembe.
The winner between Vipers and Olympic de Bangui will have to face off with Mazembe before making it to the group stages.

Robertinho expressed worry about the Congolese team’s huge history in the competition but added that his team will do all they can.

“TP Mazembe awaits the winner and they are a big club on the continent, have won a number of champions league titles and compete at a top level.”

“But, we will try and prepare our way because our objective is to go as far as possible for this season.

We trust the players and are preparing them even better for the challenge in the Champions League.

We are together in this, the players, technical team, management, administration, the president and the fans.”

The reigning Uganda Premier League champions have never made it to the group stages of the CAF Champions League despite their previous 5 attempts.

They will try this time for the 6th time and are optimistic they will finally make it.
