Victoria Series: Mbabazi steers Uganda to victory against Rwanda

Fresh from being crowned the USPA cricketer of the year 2023, Jannet Mbabazi put up a massive performance to guide Uganda to victory against Rwanda in their first game of the 2023 Victoria Series at Lugogo Cricket Oval.

Mbabazi batting at number three, registered 30 runs not out in Uganda’s chase to defeat Rwanda which saw her being crowned the player of the match.

Rwanda win the toss and elected to bat first which saw them put up a score of 61 runs all out in just 19 overs with Gishele Ishimwe registering 19 runs from 40 ball faced before being bowled out by Stephanie Nampiina.

Having defend the Rwandeese to a low score rate, Uganda started poorly in their in their attack with the pairing of Kevin Awino and Proscovia Alako which saw Alako falling off in the first over as she attempted her first ball she faced.

Coming in at number three, Jannet Mbabazi put up a spirited fight as she partnered Stephanie Nampiina who came in to bat at the fourth position.

Mbabazi managed to pull out three 4s in her 30 runs as Nampiina registered 18 runs with two 4s in the 27 balls she faced before being bowled out by Rosine Irera.

Immaculate Nakisuyi had four runs in Uganda’s victory against Rwanda.

Rwanda will return in action as they face Kenya tomorrow in the afternoon whereas Uganda will be off tomorrow and return to action on Thursday afternoon as they face UAE.
