NEC returned to winning ways in a 5-1 thumping of struggling Soroti City at Bugolobi Coffee Ground in the FUFA Big league.
NEC FC having lost all their last two games in FUFA Big league against Kitara FC (0-1) and Luweero United (2-0), they came into the game with their targets still locked on securing promotion to the top tier division in Ugandan football.
This ensured that the Bugolobi based side needed a win to keep tabs with the top three promotion candidates hence securing a vital 5-1 home win with club captain Marvin Kavuma scoring a hattrick as Sulaiman Ssesaazi and Geoffrey Sserunkuma adding on a goal each in a massive home victory.
Marvin Kavuma opened the score in the 8th minute for NEC when he converted a penalty following an handball saga.
Soroti City equalised in the 36th minute through Simon Peter Odeke though couldn’t defend well in the 42nd minute with Sulaiman Ssesaazi scoring a header from Shamir Kimwero corner to send home side into the short break with a lead.
In the Second half, NEC could not stop from attacking until in the 78th minute when Marvin doubled his goal to make it 3-1.
In the 80th minute, Kavuma completed his hatrick thanks to Sserunkuma’s good pass.
2 minutes to full time, Sserunkuma converted a penalty to earn NEC a 5-1 win.
In few stats, Sserunkuma scored his first goal for NEC.
For Kavuma, his hattrick took him to 13 goals this season.
The win took NEC FC to 3rd position with 40 points, level with Mbarara who are in second.
