Big League: Kasaija gifts Sam Ssimbwa first win at Kitara

David Kasaija scored the only important goal of the match as Kitara FC defeated Lugazi FC by a 1-0 score at Kigaaya playgrounds to move top of the FUFA Big league table.

A win against Lugazi FC ensured that head coach Sam Ssimbwa has picked his first win at Kitara FC in their quest to secure promotion to the top flight.

Kitara FC dominated the proceedings playing at home defending as a team and indeed it paid off as Maxwell Owaguchi made a timely clearance to sweep away a well headed ball by Umar Kayemba off the line.

Both sides had a couple of scoring opportunities but failed to have composure infront of goal as the first stanza ended in a goalless draw.

Sam Ssimbwa’s boys came back strong in the second half as they possessed the ball in the opponents half with Jasper Aheebwa testing goalkeeper Anthony Emojong but his effort was saved.

With just five minutes from the hour mark, David Kasaija headed in a well delivered cross from a Moses Sseruyide free kick to hand the hosts a deserved lead in the 65th minute.

Sseruyide had a chance to double Kitara’s lead but his powerful effort was parried away by goalkeeper Anthony Emojong in the 74th minute.

There was nothing much to play for as Kitara’s FC opted to defend their lead with the most of the minutes in the second half and it really paid off as the secured a 1-0 win to move top of the log with a better goal difference.

Kitara FC now currently sit to with 37 points same as NEC FC and Police FC who sit second and third consecutively but they hold a good goal difference.
