Injured Peruth Chemutai wins bronze medal in Commonwealth Games

Uganda’s Peruth Chemutai clinched a bronze medal in the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.

This was in the women’s 3000m steeplechase championship. Chemutai sustained an injury while running which forced her to slow down.

She however persevered onto the finish line grabbing a podium finish. The 2020 Olympic gold medalist posted a time of 9.23.24 at the Alexander stadium.

Kenya managed to retain gold in this category having won it in the previous championship in 2018. This time round Jackline Chepkoech clinched the gold medal while Britain’s Elizabeth Bird won silver.

“Gold: Jackline Chepkoech, 9:15.68 (Kenya)

Silver: Elizabeth Bird, 9:17.79 (Britain)

Peruth Chemutai 9:23.24 (Uganda).”

This was Uganda’s 4th medal in the ongoing Commonwealth Games. Two have been gold from Victor Kiplangat in the 42km marathon and 10,000m by Jacob Kiplimo.

The other two are from Peruth Chemutai and boxer Teddy Nakimuli.
