CAF Champions league: Vipers, TP Mazembe play out to a goalless draw

In the CAF champions league first round, Uganda’s representatives Vipers SC played out to a 0-0 draw as they hosted DR Congo giants TP Mazembe at St. Mary’s stadium in Kitende.

TP Mazembe dominated the proceedings but they couldn’t find space to hit the back of the of an excellent performing goalkeeper Alfred Mudekereza.

Mudekereza made a couple of saves to deny the high flying TP Mazembe as the game ended 0-0.

Vipers will now fancy their chances of qualifying to the CAF champions League group stages for the first time if they can secure positive results in the return leg away from home.

Vipers will have to avoid defeat against TP Mazembe in Congo as a win or a goals draw will see them progressed to the group stages.

TP Mazembe will only require a win for them to progress to the group stages in order to avoid last season’s disappointment when they were eliminated by Amazulu after failing to overturn 0-0 in South Africa and managed a 1-1 draw at home in Lubumbashi.
