Experience Lifts City Oilers past Namuwongo Blazers

Seven time Uganda National Basketball League Champions City Oilers, flew off deep fry to win 60-53 in game one of the best of seven series finals for the 2022/2023 Season.

In a game played on Wednesday lights, Namuwongo Blazers had hopes from many faithful and somehow answered questions in their reach with winning three of the four quarters at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.

Coach Steven Nyeko’s charges seemed the better charges before full time having finished top of the log and winning twice against the days’ opponent in the regular season.

City Oilers banked on experience orchestrated by Character and will be the only word to debate about by the huge number of fans who trekked from Namuwongo to fill the stadia to capacity.
In a hugely contested affair, Namuwongo Blazers won with one point in the first Quarter 13-12 before throwing a 3 and 5 point range in the second and third quarter respectively,thanks to Paul odongo’s three pointer at the blink of quarter three.

Going into the Final Quarter,Mandy Juruni stood in a firm position and having been here a consecutive seven times,this seemed a usual step over.
James Okello scored 1from two free throws and Jimmy Enabu’s 2 point lay up in the first minute of quarter four made City Oilers trail by only two points with nine minutes to play.
Man of the big moments Ben Komakech went hot to level matters with Sudanese Mer Maker and ever green Tony Drilleba standing tall to score a 7 point difference at full time.

Amisi Saidi’s 12 and 14 points for Chris Omanye were in losing efforts but will be a story to stand on as both teams go again in game two on Friday.
