Rebecca Cheptegei a ugandan female athlete in long distances have passed on today.
Rebecca was admitted to Moi Teaching and referral hospital in Eldoret, Kenya where she had suffered burns after a domestic dispute with his husband Nickson Ndiema.
The dispute is louded to have come when Rebecca had bought land closer to Kenya’s athletic training centers and a disagreement emerged.
Her husband Nickson Ndiema poured petrol before lighting a fire though be was too injured.
Joseph Cheptegei a father to Rebecca Cheptegei called for Justice for his daughter before the demise.
” We call for Justice to prevail on what happened to my daughter “.
The President of the Uganda Olmpic Committee (UOC) reached his condolence message while confirming the passing away.
“We have learnt of the sad passing on of our Olympic athlete Rebecca Cheptegei following a vicious attack by her boyfriend”.
“May her gentle soul rest in peace and we strongly condemn violence against women. This was a cowardly and senseless act that has led to the loss of a great athlete. Her legacy will continue to endure,”.
Rebecca Cheptegei competed in the recent concluded 2024 women’s marathon in Olympics Paris, France.
She finished 44th on a timing of 2: 33: 14, infront of her country mate Mercyline Chelangat who finished 69th and behind Stella Chesang who finished 8th.
