Kiwanuka handed UPDF FC head coach role

Uganda Premier league side UPDF FC have announced Paul Kiwanuka as their new head coach ahead of the 2024/2025 season.

Kiwanuka who has been serving as the assistant coach to Pius Ngabo last season will now take the charge to lead the army side in their quest for a better finish in the Uganda Premier League. This was announced in a press release shared on UPDF FC social media platforms.

“We’re excited to announce Paul Kiwanuka as our new Head Coach. After serving as Assistant Coach to Pius Ngabo last season, Coach Kiwanuka takes the helm, bringing fresh vision and leadership.” read a statement from UPDF FC.

Paul Kiwanuka commands a rich background in Ugandan football having previously worked with the late Kajoba Fred as his Assistant for four years at Bright Stars.

He also had a brief stint as Head Coach of Bright Stars in the 2019/2020 season. After leaving Vipers SC, he rejoined Bright Stars and later coached Gasogi United in 2022. He then joined UPDF FC in the second round of last season as Assistant Coach to Pius Ngabo.

The changes at the army side will see coach Pius Ngabo drop down the pecking order to work as Kiwanuka’s Assistant Coach starting with the 2024/2025 season.

UPDF FC will start the 2024/2025 campaign on away against Maroons FC.
