University Football League: Semi-Final draws held

The Pepsi University Football League semifinal draw has been conducted on Friday at Kati Kati Restaurant in Lugogo.

Two time runners up St.Lawrence University will battle former champions Nkumba University in the semifinal as they renew their battle this season.

The two sides faced off on the group stage with each team winning at home on 3-1 score.

St.Lawrence University cruised to the semis after eliminating Kampala University 5-2 on aggregate in the Quarterfinal stage.

“The draws are done and we are playing against Nkumba, it’s going to be a good football and the best team will win, yes for the past years we have been reaching this level but not been winning the finals, maybe it wasn’t our time, then if it’s this, we shall do it.” Says St Lawrence University skipper, Balondemu David Lukisi.

Nkumba University powered past last year’s winners Uganda Martyrs University 2-1 on aggregate.

“We have just been drawn against St Lawrence University our previous rivals in group stages, it wasn’t an easy game while playing them and we’re facing them at the semifinals, we shall do our best to go through to the final, I think they’re more experienced team than we are but we shall put in our best.” said Ssewankambo John Kennedy, Nkumba University captain.

The other semifinal will see 2019 competition winners Uganda Christian University battle Makerere University Business School.

UCU eliminated Makerere University by away-goals rule after the two had tied to 2-2 aggregate.

MUBS prevailed to the semifinal stage after a 1-0 aggregate win over Bugema University in the Quarterfinal.

The first leg games will be played on Tuesday, 19th March and Thursday, 21st March.
