Hundreds grace the inagural SOM Easter Open Championships

The inagural Som Easter Open Open Chess Championship started today friday 29th March at som chess academy offices in katwe, Makindye Division.

Over 150 participants graced day one of the first edition competing in two categories, the Open category for both Men & women and ladies category.

Robert Katende the founder of the academy affirmed the participation of four East African countries taking part in this years tournament in South Sudan, Rwanda, Kenya and Uganda the host nation.

“We are honoured to host the first edition of SOM Easter Chess Championship and our main target is to make it happen every year during the Easter holidays,” said Robert Katende.

“We have more than 150 participants taking place with our neighboring countries like Kenya, Tanzania, and South Sudan sending representatives. We are delighted with the participation of two special guests who are coming the USA to take part in the Blitz Chess which will be held on 5th April.” He added.

A hefty prize totalling to about UGX 10M will be awarded to the winners inform of cash prizes and medals to the excelling participants.
