University Football League: Ssentongo bags a brace as UMU start tittle defence with a win

Uganda Martyrs University 3-1 Bugema University

Akbar Ssenyonga scored a second half brace as Uganda Martyrs University cruised to 3-1 win against Bugema University in the opening match of the 11th edition of the University Football League.

Ivan Agamire put the hosts in a comfortable lead with a goal in the 34th minute as they started their title defence on a high in a game played at home in Nkozi.

Fred Wamani scored from the spot in the 90th minute as Bugema University settled for a consolation as they failed to pick a positive result away from home against the defending champions.

Uganda Martyrs head coach Eric Kisuuze took it to the media as he thanked his players for the job well done as they picked their first win in an opening day victory.

“I thank the almighty God for enabling us pick maximum points today, I also want to thank my players for executing what we had into plan because we did not come here to play and enjoy the game but we came to win.”said Eric Kisuuze the head coach UMU.

“That’s the mentality we had in mind and hence the strategies worked as we had everything in our power on the day and we took the day for a win behind the great support from our home fans:” he added.

Yiga Paul the assistant coach at Bugema University picked out some few positives in the loss against the defending champions as he expects his side to bounce back in their next fixture.

“First of all I thank our our players for the work done, I must say we have had a slow start but the team is promising. We have conceded three goals to the defending champions and we must accept that our opponents had a better day as they took home maximum points.”

“Our aim now is to go back on the drawing board and rectify the mistakes that cost us today as we target to bounce back stronger in the next fixture, I am very sure and confident we shall win the next one.” Said Yiga Paul the assistant coach at Bugema University.
