The National Women’s T20 League came to it’s conclusion on Saturday a week after Soroti City clinched the league title for the first time in their history.
The Soroti side won the league last Saturday in the final round of games, but there was a pending game; a double header between Pioneer and Wanderers that had to be settled for the league to be wrapped up.
Wanderers won that double header to take their tally of wins to five which ensured they finished the season placed 4th in the table standings with 11 points. Pioneer meanwhile, finished second last with 6 points, just three ahead of bottom placed Tornado Bees.
With this history making season now over and done with, we take a look at the league in numbers.
Queens of the Bat
Wanderers ended the season placed miles away from the top, but their all-rounder Rita Musamali topped the batting charts. From her 9 innings, Musamali amassed 277 runs that included 33 4s. That tally of 4s was the most by any player. Esther Iloku (259) from Olila, Phionah Kulume (258), Kevin Awino (196) and Janet Mbabazi (171) all three from the Champions Soroti City completed the top five.
Iloku’s knock of 87 against Jinja SS was the highest score chalked up in a single game. There were only five 50s registered; Kulume notched two of those. Musamali, Iloku and Mbabazi each recorded one. There were zero 100s hit.
A total of 21 6s were managed. Immaculate Nakisuyi (Aziz Damani), Stephanie Nampiina (Jinja SS) and Sarah Walaza (Wanderers) bagged the most, each with three.
374 4s were racked up. Musamali (33), Iloku (31), Kulume (29), Awino (21), Jimia Mohammed (15) and Nampiina (15) led in that regard.
The ball freaks
In-terms of bowling, Rashida Tikabula whose team (Jinja SS) finished 6th with only 6 points outdid her peers to top the bowling charts with 19 wickets. Olila’s Kevin Amuge (14), Soroti’s Patricia Apolot (14), Olila’s Naome Amongin (12) completed the top four. Patricia Timong, Irene Alumo and Sarah Akiteng all from Soroti City each capped the campaign with 11 wickets.
Of the players who bowled at least 20 Overs, Timong conceded the least runs (70), but with 3.00, Amongin who conceded 87 runs had the best economy.
Wanderers’ Rehema Akiteng bowled the most dots. From her 34.4 Overs, she registered 152 dots, four more than her namesake, Soroti’s Akiteng. Despite picking the most wickets, Tikabula conceded the most runs- 187.
There was no hattrick recorded, but seven players including Tikabula, Amongin, Timong, Christine Anayo, Akiteng (Rehema), Nakisuyi and Hope Akiteng each picked four wickets in a single game. And Dinah Adong from Pioneer bagged the only fifer of the season.
Fielding monsters
Awino prevailed over everyone in the fielding department. With her 17 dismissals in total, she racked up 11 Wicketkeeper catches, 3 stumpings and once dismissed a player through a direct hit. Maria Nyende Kagoya, however, from Aziz Damani had the most stumpings (7).
Timong had the most catches (7) while Asumin Akurut with 3 had the most direct run-outs. Malisa Ariokot from five matches had the most indirect run-outs (3). The Olila prodigy tied with Pioneer’s Eunice Kobusingye.
Best of the Best
Overall, Amongin ended the campaign as the best ranked player. She accumulated 1233 points and bagged four Player of the Match awards. Kulume came second with 1173 points.
Musamali (1044), Iloku (964) and Timong (825) completed the top five.
