Women Olympic Qualifiers: Uganda dig deep to eliminate Rwanda

The Uganda Women National team ‘Crested Cranes’ fought hard to defeat Rwanda 1-0 in extra time after a goalless draw in normal time.

The development mean that the Crested Cranes advanced to the next qualification round where they will face Cameroon.

Second half substitute Fazila Ikwaput fired a low drive into the buttom left corner In the 100th minute and this was just enough for the three points.

The Crested Cranes appeared better with clear scoring chances but as it was before in the first leg, wastefulness was at play.

Forward Fauzia Najjemba, Sandra Nabwetema and Shakira Nyinagahirwa all got opportunities of goalkeeper to beat but failed to convert.

” We managed to get the result but it was tough for us. We have to go back and work on a number of aspects before facing our next opponents ” head coach Ayub Khalifa said after the game.
