UBCL: Ukasha Dominates Sande, Switches Focus To Cameroon

Matovu Ukasha lived as advertised thanks to a deserved victory against Simon Sande during the Sting-sponsored Uganda Boxing Champions League match-week six’s main bout at Club Obligato.

Ukasha who hails from Lubya Boxing Club, won the Welterweight contest with a 5-0 unanimous decision.

Ukasha dominated from the word go, hurting his opponent with a flurry of jabs in the stomach before landing a couple on the head.

But Sande who struggled in the opening exchanges, proved a no-pushover in the last round, and he kept Ukasha uncomfortable down the stretch.

Ukasha had a cut nearer to his eye, but he held on until the bell.

“In my opinion, I think I have won. I think I have proved to Ukasha that I am a better fighter and topped all the five rounds, I just don’t know how the Judges scored this fight,” Sande failed to concede the defeat.

“I left him with some cuts and bruises.”

“I thank my President Muhangi, my RDC who was in attendance, my fans and everyone who has been there for me including the people of Nansana.”

The defeat is the third for Sande against Ukasha who lost the two contests in last year’s Champions League.

“I told him since yesterday that he should start studying to become a judge if he continues complaining about refereeing because he might be knowing how to officiate than fighting,” Ukasha took a jibe after the victory.

Ukasha who was recently summoned to the National Team (Bombers), said that his main focus is on representing Uganda at the forthcoming African Boxing Championships in Yaounde, Cameroon.

“This was very easy for me, I just made light work of the fight. This fight had less significance for me, my target is in Cameroon and this is just the beginning of my road to Paris Olympics.”

After sustaining bruises, Ukasha said: “His main aim was to do foul play on me because he even used elbows but I remained strong thought-out.

“These are small matters, and in a day or two, I will be fresh and clean.

“I think I have to improve on landing scoring punches going forward.”

Cheered on by a big crowd, Ukasha said that he will still be available to face Sande any day but “deep down he knows that I am a better fighter than him.”
