Soroti City Clinch Women T20 League

Soroti City Cricket Club clinched the National Women’s T20 League title over the weekend following their routine win over Tornado Bees at the Green Oval in Entebbe.

The two sides were supposed to play a double header on Saturday, but after the morning game being abandoned due to the morning rains, Soroti won the afternoon one, convincingly beating Tornado Bees by 118 runs.

Olila High won both their games, but the shared points in that abandoned game meant Soroti finished the season with 21 points, one ahead of Olila, and for the first time in their history, lifted the league trophy.

Their triumph sees the end of Aziz Damani’s dominance who had won the league four successive times.

“This Triumph means everything to us as a team,” Janet Mbabazi, the captain of the side said after victory.

“Cricket is a team sport and to get to this point, everyone has got to make an effort to support the team which is something we collectively did.

“Everyone did their best and We are happy because this victory gives us motivation to be better versions of ourselves.”

Felix Musana, the Chairman of the Soroti Cricket Association said winning the trophy was a ‘reflection of the support and encouragement they have received from our community’.

“It is a moment of immense pride and joy to our city. This victory is not only a testament to the talent and perseverance of our players but also a reflection of the support and encouragement they have received from our community.

“The collective effort of the coaching staff, support staff, and the entire Soroti City Cricket Club family has played a crucial role in this remarkable achievement.”
