KCCA’s Haruna Lukwago Poised To Grind At Lugogo

Shortly after signing for KCCA FC in 2022, Haruna Lukwago said, “I want to give my best for this club and win here.”

One season after, the right wing back is not so pleased with his own output. He signed a five years deal with KCCA, and he still has time until 2027, but he feels his presence should be felt now, and wants to make an impact immediately.

Playing at the back for KCCA the whole of last season, the defender registered no goal, and no assist. That is a concern the youthful player is aware of, and he wants to work on improvement this coming season.

“I managed to play a number of games last season, and I am proud of the progress. But I feel abit uneasy that I had no goal and no assist,” Lukwago narrated to TheSportsNation.

“I know I need to better my statistics, and that that is just enough motivation to get me working even harder this time. This season is for grinding, he added.

Lukwago did fairly well last season, amassing nine appearances, coupled with some impressive displays, but we are yet to see the best of the youthful player who left Mbale Heroes FC as a star – scoring and creating goals so often.

However, it is also worthy to note that at his former club, the versatile right wingback was employed in a more advanced role – he typically played as a forward.

Having also previously played for CRO FC, Rwampara Bulls, and Mbarara City FC Junior Team, joining KCCA was the biggest task of them all, but the 5.9 ft player with aerial prowess and great physique is wading through. Only his numbers betray him.

“There were some challenges in my first season in the top division,” Lukwago admitted, however, adding that: “But that is not an excuse. I know I just have to work harder. I have learnt a number of lessons, and I will be using my experience to improve on myself.”

Lukwago competed for a spot in the squad with senior players like Musitafa Mujuzi and Geoffrey Wasswa among others, after consequently being promoted to the senior side, having briefly featured for the KCCA U20 side in the Cambiasso and Rainbow International Tournament in Dar es salaam, Tanzania in which he helped the team to win the trophy.

There will even be more competition at Lugogo this term, as more Junior Team players have been promoted, and the arrival of a number of local and international players, to be assessed by a new foreign coach.
