KCCA Panthers Target Kampala Rockets Scalp

Wednesday, July 12
•UCU Lady Canons Vs A1 Challenge, 6:30pm
•KCCA Panthers Vs Kampala Rockets, 8:30pm

KCCA Panthers will fancy their chances against Kampala Rockets on Wednesday in the National Basketball League at YMCA in Wandegeya.

Brian Wathum’s Panthers won the reverse fixture 71-58 and will be having eyes on sealing a league double.

They are buoyed by last Sunday’s 77-72 victory over UPDF Tomahawks at YMCA.

That win over UPDF ended the Club’s four-game losing streak since beating Rezlife Saints in May.

But KCCA Panthers will continue to be without the crucial duo of Salim Kisilu and Mabor Riny Tueny who moved to Georgia last week.

Kisilu averaged 10 points and 9 rebounds in the First round while Mabor had started all the 13 games before Sunday for KCCA.

The two, joined City Oilers’ guard Luak Ruai for a training camp in Eastern Europe that will end in the first week of August.

KCCA beat UPDF without the duo, and Coach Wathum will hope the Boys can still get the job done on Wednesday.

New signing Abel Omongin seamlessly fit into the team – The former City Oilers and Charging Rhino guard marked his debut with 13 points and five rebounds against UPDF on Sunday.

For the Rockets, life in top flight has not been a smooth one, but that was expected.

And their report card reads four wins in 10 games.

Their roster has been deprived of quality despite outstanding displays from Emmanuel Okumu, Francis ‘Odom’ Kasinde, John Dombo, Gideon Kasasa and Kur Garang.

This is one game the Rockets will feel they can win, but they will have to double their efforts if they are to stand a chance to upset the odds on Wednesday.
