KCCA FC: Ssekajja Reveals Reasons for Choosing Sergio Traguil

KCCA FC Chairman Martin Ssekajja has revealed the major reasons for choosing a foreign coach.

KCCA unveiled the Portuguese coach Sergio Daniel Moniz Traguil as the new manager at the club.

The club, back on June 13th this year had already confirmed Sergio as the new coach, a development that ended speculations that linked former coaches Mike Mutebi, Sam Ssimbwa and Abdallah Mubiru to the job.

While addressing the press on Thursday at Kati Kati, Ssekajja revealed that they needed a coach that could push them to achieve more.

“We went abroad since we needed a coach that can push us, demand more because KCCA does not just need a coach, we needed a manager, somebody that can address all affairs of management in terms of the technical aspects of KCCA FC,” Ssekajja said.

“So that was the major objective as to why we went for him, to push everyone around, think bigger and continental, as we look to dominate.”

Before his move to KCCA, Traguil, who started his coaching career at Benfica had stints at different clubs here in Africa.

He coached teams that include Kaduna (Nigeria), Hearts of Oak (Ghana), Singida Big Stars (Tanzania), CD Lunda Sol (Angola) among others.

And Ssekajja added on that his experience on the African continent was another factor to bring him on board.

“Yes given his experience of working with very many African teams you know that was important in recruiting the manager, because he has familiar understanding with African environment, the pitches that we have, management of players in our context, so he is here to raise the standards.”

The Portuguese coach comes at a time when the Lugogo based club is reeling from trophy less past four seasons and now, the club is headed for a new lease of life next season.

And for the first time in recent times, KCCA will be under a foreign coach come next season.

However, Ssekajja believes it’s a matter of time for him to take the club to the next level.

“Two years is quite adequate to change a lot of things at the club, change the mentality he has already given our pre season schedule. So that is where it all starts, so we believe the time given will change a lot of things including mentality.”

“We have given him assurance, we engaged him about eight months back. We had a mutual kind of exchange, of expectations and we hope to maintain the same working environment. We will give him space and run the technical part of our club. Some times the fans aren’t patient enough, but we call upon all of them to be patient”

Traguil’s immediate task at KCCA will see him guide the club at the CAF confederation cup come where they will take part next season.

And also, he will be tasked to bring back the lost glory at a club that has gone four seasons without winning any silverware here in the country.
