ICC Cricket World Cup Trophy coming To Uganda

The prestigious ICC Cricket World Cup trophy is coming to Uganda, it’s official.

Uganda has been chosen as one of the 18 countries across the World that will host the 2023 50-oved Cricket World Cup trophy on it’s ongoing tour.

The tour, sponsored by Nissan, will be followed by the ICC World Cup that will be held in India from October 5th to November 19th 2023.

Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) has confirmed that the Trophy will arrive in Uganda on August 25th and depart on August 27th.

Several activities have been lined up to mark this historical occasion.

“We are very excited to be hosting the World Cup trophy in Kampala after being chosen by the ICC,” said Alan Mugume, the UCA Chairperson.

“We want to leverage this opportunity to continue our primary role of spreading the game throughout the whole county.

“We want to use this opportunity as well to connect the game to key partners in the growth of our game as we seek new partnerships that we help in the development of Cricket in Uganda.”

Uganda is among the three countries in Africa that will host the trophy, the others being Nigeria and South Africa.

It’s strong to note that Uganda has never competed at the ICC Cricket World Cup, but has appeared at the U19 World Cup thrice.

England are the defending champions of the ICC Cricket World Cup, having won the title back in 2019 on home soil after a dramatic finale when they needed a Super Over to edge New Zealand.

The names of the previous winners are engraved on the base of the trophy, with space for a total of twenty inscriptions.
