Gift Fred was part of the SC Villa training as the record league winners started preparations for the 2023/24 season on Monday at East High in Ntinda.
The defender is rumoured to be linked with a move away from the club after ending his contract.
Villa are in talks for Gift to renew his star but reports suggest that the club may not be able to meet his hefty sign-on fee and salary.
Yanga of Tanzania and St George of Ethiopia are among the clubs that have shown interest in the defender.
Amidst all the transfer talk, Gift attended the training session and did not look bothered with the ongoing uncertainties about his future.
The former Booma FC player joined the Jogoos in August 2021, after winning the Masaza Cup title with Gomba.
Villa start life under Stojanovic
This was the second time Villa new coach Dusan Stojanovic was meeting the players, the first was in a class setting.
The training was tense, despite starting off with a dance as Stojanovic joined inside a circle as players sang Gravity Omutujju’s Okwepicha.
He was heard calling out a couple of players by their names, including his assistants Morley Byekwaso and Arthur Kyesimira.
It is said that he called the whole squad from last season to train before making a final decision on who stays and who goes.
There was no Charles Bbaale whose contract also expired and linked with a move away just like Gift Fred.
Saddam Masereka who left the club for studies in the United States, attended the training and was part of the 27 players who trained on Monday – But he will not be rejoining the club by look of things
