Boxing: All eyes on Gold as Bombers head to Cameroon

The Uganda Boxing team ‘the Bombers’ were flagged off yesterday to the Africa Elite Boxing Championships in Yaoundé Cameroon amd they have set their targets to bringing Gold medals back home.

A contingent of 17 Boxers was flagged off in a massive event held in Bwaise team by the UBF President Moses Muhangi and the Shadow minister for sports Kayemba Solo.

Joshua Tukamuhebwa and Emily Nakalema will are the team captains of 11 men and 6 Ladies on the team, speaking to the press they assured all Ugandans of bringing Gold back home.

“We are all in good shape as a team, the trainings have been massive and the feeding has been coming in time so this time round we have no excuse to give but only to bring back home medals. Our target as a team is to collect Gold medals ” said the team captain Joshua Tukamuhebwa.

Emily Nakalema added her voice as she urged the ladies on the team to stay focused and not to be in pressure as they are playing fellow ladies and not men.

“We are not on pressure as team but we want to assure Ugandans that we are going to stage a remarkable performance in Cameroon and our major target is bringing back medals, this is the first time Uganda is taking a full team of 17 Boxers to a continental Championships.” Said Emily Nakalema the ladies captain

A total of 35 countries have so far confirmed participation in the $1,000,000 competition. These are DR Congo, Tanzania, Comoros, Cameroon, Senegal, Egypt, Swaziland, Guinea, Morocco, Botswana, Congo Brazzaville, Mauritius, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, Seychelles, Ghana, Angola, Guinea Bissau, Togo, Mali, Zambia, Cape Verde, Burkina Faso, South Africa and Uganda
