Alex Isabirye Resigns – Accuses Vipers of Contract Breach

Vipers head coach Alex Isabirye has confirmed resignation from his role at Kitende.

The gaffer who won the double last season, has accused the Uganda Premier League champions of contract breach.

Isabirye who recently suffered an accident, was ordered by the Club to appear before the Disciplinary Committee due Thursday for repeated absenteeism.

In response, Isabirye has said that he will not appear before the Disciplinary Committee as summoned because of his current healthy as he continues recovery from accident.

He wrote: “I didn’t a abscond from duty as head coach. I was involved in an accident and had to seek medical attention. I immediately informed the Club CEO Simon Njuba.”

The gaffer has accused the club of breaching the contract after he wasn’t consulted in the transfer business.

“I am writing to confirm my resignation from the position of head coach of Vipers SC due to breach of my Contract,” reads a letter Isabirye has sent to Vipers.

“Article 5, Section 3 and 4 of my employment contract states that I am responsible for endorsing players being recruited and choosing my assistant team/staff in consultation with the club management.

“However, this clause was not honoured and I was not aware of the recruitment of three current members of the team: Raoul Lukusa Kayembe (assistant coach) and two Brazilian Players Giancarlo Lopez and Luis ‘Tinga’ Otavio Santos.”

Isabirye said that he is “aggrieved” by the serious breaches and “unreasonable conduct.”

He added that he doesn’t know the capacity of the players and “concerned” that they might not help the team achieve it’s goals.

Isabirye Lays Vipers, Lawrence Mulindwa Bare

For those who thought interference in coach’s works is a myth, now you have the answer right there.

Isabirye’s resignation has exposed and lifted the lid on operations of Vipers president Lawrence Mulindwa.

Mulindwa, without doubt, is treasured in Ugandan Football and Sports in general for his investments in the game mainly the construction of St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.

His passion for the game is unmatched, but his administrative operations leave a lot to be desired, to say the least.

A couple of coaches that have been at Kitende, and those around the club, have accused Mulindwa of interfering into the Coach’s works, but few have come out to say so in the open.

A couple, off the record, have gone ahead to say that he has at times interfered in team selections on match-days!

In defence, Mulindwa was once said that no one can invest huge amounts of money and just sit there and watch as things go haywire.

Isabirye believes that Steven Mulindwa, club’s General Manager, who also doubles as the son of President Mulindwa, is doing the coach’s work!

If this vice continues, the Club is destined to fall into an abyss.
