Women T20 League: Soroti City Back to the Summit

Soroti City Cricket Club climbed back to the top of the table after their double header wins against Pioneer in the National Women’s T20 League on Saturday.

Soroti City had not played a game since 3rd June, and had been demoted to the third position owing to that fact, but the side was right into business on their return to league action.

The first game of their double header ended with them winning it by 7 wickets; an easy chase that got done in the tenth Over.

Evelyn Anyipo continued with her Kwibuka form. Janet Mbabazi and Sarah Tino each picked two wickets in this game (the most in the team), but Anyipo stood out with the ball despite not picking a wicket. The pacer gave out only one run from the three Overs she bowled.

In the afternoon game, Soroti City won by 49 runs after choosing to bat first. Phionah Kulume (33), Kevin Awino (27) and Claire Mushakamba (20) got the runs for their team.

And it was Christine Anayo with her three wickets who led the defence of the team’s score. Sarah Akiteng after missing out on the Kwibuka tournament was back into playing cricket. The left hander bowled four Overs and picked one wicket for nine runs.

Patricia Apolot was like for like with Akiteng interms of the bowling stats. Both players had the economy of 2.25.

Soroti are now back on top despite playing two games less. Defending champions Aziz Damani climbed to second, but did not play any of their Saturday games.

Damani had a date with Wanderers in Entebbe, but the first game was abandoned while Wanderers forfeited the afternoon one.
