Uganda Cup: The Cops stand in Vipers way to the double

Saturday 3rd June

Police FC Vs Vipers

Venue: Aki Bua Stadium, Lira

Time: 3:00pm

Police FC  and Vipers SC will contest for the most-anticipated Uganda Cup final as the Venoms seek to write their names as part of the double Champions at Aki Bua Stadium in Lira on Saturday.

A single match it may well be, but its significance stretches beyond just the silverware  given the wider context of the achievement Vipers are chasing.

Having been denied to be crowned the ‘salongo’ in Ugandan Football last season as they lost the Cup final to BUL FC, the Venoms are once again back at chasing for the double despite a tougher season which saw them being crowned UPL Champions on the last day of the league as contenders SC Villa slipped in their last game.

The Kitende based side will face Big league side Police FC who are making their debut appearance in the Uganda Cup final. The first ever major final between the Cops and the Venoms will have Alex Isabirye tasked to over power a strong Angelo Lonyesi coached side as he targets to win the Uganda Cup in a second consecutive season.

“I take this opportunity to congratulate my colleague for having made it to the Uganda Cup finals, We are so much prepared for this final as we are playing a team that has got vast experience playing in the super league.” Said Richard Wasswa the Vipers assistant coach.

Vipers Assistant coach Richard Wasswa addressing the press at FUFA complex

“Police FC plays in the FUFA Big league but they managed to defeat top tier teams which play in the Uganda Premier League and it’s the main reason why we are so much prepared for them as we hunt for a double this season.” He added

Vipers SC have managed to play in the Uganda Cup finals on six separate occasions and only to be crowned champions twice.

A win do Police FC would see them write their names on the prestigious Uganda Cup trophy for the first time in history and also land a spot to represent the country on the continent with a direct ticket to the CAF confederation cup preliminary round.

Police FC head coach Angelo Lonyesi has set all his eyes on guiding Police FC to their first Uganda Cup trophy but he faces a huge task ahead of him despite being confident on pulling up a shocking result in Lira.

“I take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported us to reach this milestone, It was not by mistake as Police FC is an experienced side. We are so prepared and our main target is to win the trophy as we vie to represent the country on continental levels, we are an institution team and we have got what it takes to represent the country in CAF competitions.” Said Angelo Lonyesi

Vipers will miss the services of Marvin Joseph Youngman, Livingstone Mulondo, Alfred Mudekereza and Murushid Juuko who are nursing long term injuries.
