The 2022/23 StarTimes Uganda Premier League will live for long in many fans memories after an epic final dramatic climax.
For SC Villa fans however, it’s one they will want to forget easily after they missed a good opportunity to add on their 16 league titles tally.
Going into the final day, three teams – SC Villa, Vipers SC and KCCA FC – had chances of winning the most coveted prize in the local game.
Villa, hosting URA at Wankulukuku, needed a win to be crowned champions.
At Kitende, Vipers banked on Villa’s slip as they took on Busoga United while KCCA needed results at Wankulukuku and Kitende to go their way as they entertained a tricky Bright Stars side at Lugogo.
This was the very point of the season when one wanted to be at all the three venues, which is literally impossible.
But League sponsors, StarTimes Uganda, turned every fan’s dream into a reality by broadcasting all the three games live!
FUFA TV had their cameras at Wankulukuku while Sanyuka Prime were relaying events live from Kitende. The game at Lugogo was broadcast live on BBS, the first time a league game was shown live on the Buganda-owned Terefayina.
And the day lived to it’s billing as a Villa slip, thanks to Najib Fessali’s second half header, handed Vipers who demolished Busoga United 5-0, a league title.
The title was delivered via a chopper, with FUFA President Moses Magogo who was accompanied by among others including Miss Uganda Hannah Karema who is the StarTimes Brand Ambassadors, gave out the trophy to champions Vipers.
And all events were relayed live on StarTimes.
