SC Villa forward Charles Bbaale is unmoved despite being beaten to the Golden Boot and the Uganda Premier League title on the last day.
The former Terrazzo and Tiles hit man who finished the season with 12 goals after firing blank against URA lost the UPL golden Boot to Allan Kayiwa on the last day after the Express forward was on target despite a 3-1 loss to Blacks Power to move him on 13 goals.
Heading into the final game of the season, SC Villa were two points at the summit but succumbed to a 1-0 home defeat to URA at the fully packed Mutesa II Stadium Wankulukuku only for Vipers to leapfrog them and defend the title.
During an exclusive interview with The-SportsNation, Bbaale stressed that they had a good season because they put up a great fight despite failing to break the 19-year trophy-less jinx.
“To me as a player it was really a successful season because it took me to another stage of my career though I didn’t win the Golden Boot and the trophy with the team but we put up a stiff competition and am happy for that,” said a hopeful Bbaale.
Bbaale who won the Golden Boot with Gomba Lions in the Masaza Cup in 2020 admits that they let the fans and the management down after the title slip.
“I really felt low especially after seeing our fans and the management crying and disappointed for not having won a trophy that was almost ours.”
Bbaale is hopeful that next season he will come back even stronger to achieve his dream of being the league top scorer after losing it at the dead.
“About the Golden Boot, that was actually my goal but as you all know things didn’t favor me but next season I hope for the best”.
He adds that their main objective of the season was to win the trophy:
“Obviously me being a front man I expected us to win and SC Villa’s main objective was to win the trophy as you all saw the competition we put up during the season”.
After battling relegation last season, Bbaale admits that they were on the right track this season.
“We have improved alot this season compared to last season where we were almost down the table to finishing third which I think is a great achievement”.
“Then me as a player, it has improved my experience with a great challenge we had this season”.
After his impressive season that saw him scoop the Pilsner Player of the month and Two times SC Villa Player of the Month, Bbaale was rewarded with a maiden National Team call up ahead of the AFCON Qualifiers with Algeria this month in Cameroon.
However, he failed to make the final Cranes cut to face Algeria in Cameroon.
Bbaale was part of the squad that guided Terrazzo and Tiles to the FUFA Big League promotion in 2019/2020 season finishing as the top scorer.
