Power Banking On New Additions Against Nam Blazers

Friday, June 23
•KIU Rangers Vs KCCA Leopards – 7pm
•Nam Blazers Vs Power – 9pm

Power will be unleashing their two new signings when they get their NBL second round campaign underway against Nam Blazers.

The Sleeping giants have added Congolse Big Man Elvis Mpeti and Nigerian guard Kevin Ogunjimi.

The five-time champions will be hoping that the two additions can spur the side to a better placement after a poor first round where they lost six games!

During a reshuffle, they have let go of Jonathan Kasilimbi, Innocent Ocen and Keith Emoru.

The Club also deactivated Robert Tasile’s contract on learning that he is playing in the Kenyan League!

The two additions are what they needed – a scoring guard and big presence in the paint.

Elvis Mpeti who recently featured for RP-IPRC Huye in Rwanda is a good rebounder and will give the side some rim protection.

This is where Power struggled most in the first round after the likes of Samad Imran were bullied and easily boxed out in most games.

And Mpeti’s aggressiveness at either side of the court will give Power an edge.

Kevin Ogunjimi, if he lives as advertised, adds quality in the back court.

Since Innocent Ochera crossed to KIU Titans, Elvis Ssentongo who was elevated to a starter, has struggled for consistency at times.

He will lift off scoring burden from Guellord Mobanza who is the team’s primary scorer.

With the new additions beefing up a squad that has the likes of Isaac Afidra, the fans will hope to see their side turn a corner.

But in Nam Blazers, they face a side that is desperate to put points on board after falling to City Oilers in their second round opener.

The Blazers have since beaten Ndejje University Angels 75-48, and will be targeting a second win on the trot.

The Blazers beat Power 63-60 on April 7 in the first round and will be hoping for nothing but a win.

A couple of Nam Blazers players – Captain Paul Odong Mcgycer, Guddi Nasser Kikiri, Dickson Asiku, Syrus Kiviiri, Mike Makiadi and Geoffrey Soro – are former Power players.

Moses Ssebirokwa and Jimmy D Williams who recently joined the club in the concluded transfer window, did not train with the team on Friday evening at Nakasero and are NOT expected to take part.
