Netball World Cup: Mugerwa Trims She Cranes to 20 Players

She Cranes head coach Fred Mugerwa has trimmed the team to 20 players ahead of the forthcoming Netball World Cup.

The team, that intially had 30 players is mostly dorminated by locally based players (19) with only one foreign based player.

It has been understood that they report on Sunday evening at the residential camp at Africa Bible University lubowa, with training commencing on Monday.

Among the notable dropped players include UK’s based Peace Proscovia (Storm Surrey UK) and versatile star Stella Oyella who have been left out .

But while speaking after naming the squad,
Mugerwa said that they based on performance and positions for each player.

“We decided to look at each individual’s performance and the position that they are playing. As you can see, out of the shooters we had about seven or eight, we have taken only six, six midfielders and the majority are defenders because we want to keep up our defence, he told the pressmen.

“We are going to work on the coordination, our passes, how to to attack and how to defend so that we can win our matches, there is no more excuses”

About the dropped players, Mugerwa said

“They should not loose hope, this is not the last on being on the National team, they will come back stronger next time when summoned.”

The Vitality netball world cup 2023 will take place in Cape town South Africa between July 28th to 6th August this year.

This will be the third consecutive appearance for She Cranes at the World Cup since it’s return to the tournament in 2015 after 36 years, following their debut in 1979 in Trinidad and Tobago.
