Miyagi Back As Cricket Cranes Shift Focus To Castle Lite Series

Barely a fortnight since their return from Nairobi, Kenya, the Cricket Cranes will be travelling to Namibia on Tuesday, 4th July for the Castle Lite Series scheduled to take place between 5-13 July.

The Series that has now become an annual event will see the return of opening bowler Juma Miyaji to the team. The 20-year-old missed the Cricket Cranes’ trip to Nairobi for the Continent Cup due a back injury, but he’s been passed fully fit, and will now make the squad that’s set to travel to the Southern African nation.

“I’m extremely excited to be back,” Miyaji told this website. “It feels so great getting back to the team. I’m excited to be with my teammates again.”

The other youngster that is set to make his return to the team is Ronald Lutaya. Lutaya also missed Uganda’s triumph in Nairobi due to University exams.

Cosmos Kyewuta is yet to recover from an injury he picked from his trials in South Africa, but Cricket Cranes coach Laurence Mahatlane will know that he needs all his best players in shape as they get ready for the World Cup Qualifiers that are set to happen in November in the same country.

As they head into this Series, Mahatlane says it will help the team acclimatize as they await the Qualifiers.

“It is a very important part of our journey to November. Playing in Namibia won’t be strange to anyone by the time the Qualifiers arrive.

“Understanding of the opposition and conditions is very important.”

The Castle Lite Series will be played in both the T20 and 50 Over formats, with the former taking place between 5th and 9th. The 50-Over matches will then follow on 11th and 13th.

Uganda lost the series 2-1 in T20 last year, but draw 1-1 in the longer version.
