Mbarara City Start Search For New Coach After Sempigi’s Exit

Mbarara City have started a search for a new coach after departure of Sadiq Sempigi.

Ssempigi confirmed his shocking exit, days after guiding the Ankole Lions back to the Uganda Premier League.

Mbarara City CEO Arnold Musabe, speaking exclusively to The-SportsNation, said that Sempigi had informed the club about his decision early into the season.

“Last year, I remember we had played around five games in the season. His contract was supposed to end in January 2024, but he requested to leave at the end of this season,” Musabe said.

“He said that he will leave whether the team is promoted or not, and he gave us his reasons which were personal and we had to respect his decision.

“We gave him time thinking he would change, and even this year, we checked on him again, but he insisted that he is sticking to his initial suggestion.”

Sempigi who joined the Club back in 2021, helped Mbarara return to top flight a season after relegation from UPL.

Musabe said that the Club is not disappointed by Sempigi’s departure, and they have to move on.

“It’s not a disappointment, what mattered most, we had to create a good working relationship between him and the club so that we can attain what we had set and we did that.”

“We have to take heart, it’s a situation that may not look good but we have to take it as the way it came and we see how best we can move on.”

On what next for the club, Musabe explained: “We have to look for a new coach and we have already started our search.”

“I can’t reveal the available options but we are still hitting on very many people. If anyone meets our demands, then we shall be good to go and the unveiling will be made.”
