Kwibuka T20: Victoria Pearls Beat Botswana

Irene Alumo and Rita Musamali starred for Uganda as the Victoria Pearls beat Botswana by 29 runs in their first game at the Kwibuka Women’s T20 tournament in Kigali, Rwanda.

Musamali helped Uganda score 86 runs in their innings with her unbeaten 35 while Alumo ensured Botswana don’t succeed in their chase. The ‘Pace Mama’ claimed three wickets as Uganda restricted their opponents to 60/9.

Opening batters Kevin Awino (17), Proscovia Alako (10) and Stephanie Nampiina (12) also contributed to Uganda’s score.

Alumo picked the most wickets for Uganda, but Botswana’s Florence Samanyika had the most in the game with 4 to her name. Janet Mbabazi was also among those with dismissals as she picked 2.

Victoria Pearls captain Consy Aweko and Botswana’s Tuelo Shadrack were the other players that had wickets each with one.

The game saw 16-year-old Malisa Ariokot earn her senior national team debut, and by that became the 34th player to feature for the Victoria Pearls in T20I.

Uganda returns to action tomorrow against the hosts Rwanda in the afternoon.
