Kwibuka T20: 15-year Old Anyait Stars For Uganda

Fifteen-year old Lorna Anyait’s economy of 1.25 won her the Player of the Match award on Tuesday as the Victoria Pearls beat Kenya by 13 runs at the Kwibuka Women’s T20 tournament in Kigali, Rwanda.

The Olila prodigy only earned her senior national team debut yesterday against Nigeria, but she emerged the best player of the day on Tuesday.

The teenager picked just one wicket, but she conceded just five runs in the four Overs she bowled which put her economy at 1.25, the best by any player on Tuesday.

Not only was she mean with the ball, Anyait Was the best fielder of the day. The youngster took three catches and completed a run out with her fellow debutant Jimia Mohammed.

Both Janet Mbabazi’s wickets and one from Stephanie Nampiina were catches from Anyait. Nampiina had two wickets to her name so did team captain Consy Aweko.

With the bat, Nampiina scored almost half of Uganda’s runs. She scored 37 as Uganda set the target at 85/10. Immaculate Nakisuyi was the other Uganda who scored in double figures.

The result means Uganda are still the only team in Rwanda yet they lose a game. They take on both Botswana and Kenya tomorrow.
