FUFA Women Cup: Uganda Martyrs Crowned Champions

Uganda Martyrs Lubaga has won the 2022/23 FUFA Women’s Cup following their 1-0 win over She Maroons in the finals held at Bishop Maraka College grounds Kumi on Saturday.

Captain Catherine Nagadya scored the all important goal in the 78th minute to ensure that her side walked away as champions.

It was joy and celebrations for the Lubaga based side as they achieved their first silverware this season, having finished third in the league.

Uganda Martyrs now join other sides like Olila High School, UCU Lady Cardinals and Makerere University that have clinched this title before.

On Saturday, after a goalless first half, Uganda Martyrs came back stronger and it paid off.

Their reliable Captain Nagadya came up with the big moment, scoring with eleven minutes to play, a goal that earned her side the bragging rights.

At the final whistle, it was all celebrations from Uganda Martyrs players, together with their travelling fans as they attained their first trophy this season.

They will feel proud for all the hard work they have put in this year’s Women Cup journey, where they even eliminated giant side Kawempe Muslim to reach the finals.

This was the fourth edition of the FUFA Women’s Cup and the competition was returning after close to three years without its appearance.
