Continent Cup T20: Cricket Cranes flagged off to Nairobi, Mahatlane to use the tournament as preparations to the World Cup Qualifiers

The National Council for Sports (NCS) has officially flagged off the Cricket Cranes to the Continent Cup in Nairobi, Kenya.

A 14man squad will represent the country in the inaugural edition of the four nation Continent Cup T20 tournament from the 7th June to the 21st of June with nations like Kenya, Rwanda and Botswana.

The team will be captained by Brian Masaba despite missing out on the services of Juma Miyagi who is nursing an injury and Ronald Lutaaya who is engaged at school doing exams.

This has seen head coach Lawrence Mahatlane award opportunities to youngsters Cyrus Kakuru and Pascal Murungi as they prepare for the T20 world cup qualifies slots.

The Cricket Cranes head coach Lawrence Mahatlane expects to use the Continent Cup T20 tournament as one of the ways to pick up momentum ahead of the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers.

“As a team we haven’t played the T20 matches for over six months so it’s been a while but we have prepared well enough and we are ready to hit the road running and we start building momentum towards the World Cup Qualifiers.” Said Head Coach Lawrence Mahatlane.

The tournament will be played in a triple round robin format with a final played between the top two teams. Having been sanctioned by the ICC, the tournament will also have T20 ranking points.

Uganda is the highest ranked team at the tournament as they occupy the 24th position with Kenya sitting at 28th, Botswana 49th and Rwanda 67th in the world.
