City Oilers proved too good for Nam Blazers thanks to a 72-52 win at Lugogo in their opening game of the NBL second round.

The win sees Oilers start from where they had stopped, and not only extend their unbeaten run to 12 games but also complete a season double over the Blazers.

It’s strong to note that Oilers beat Blazers 57-51 on April 14.

And on Friday, Oilers, who trailed by four points early in the game found their rhythm to take a 23-14 lead after the first quarter, and never looked back until crossing the finish line.

It was a game with less to admire as both sides struggled on offense, but it’s a result Oilers will take after grinding out a needed when even without Ruak Luai and Michael Ngut.

Tonny Drilleba put up a show to register a rare triple double – 10 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists – for the Oilers.

Jimmy Enabu scored a game high 17 points while four more players – Fayed Baale (11), James Okello (10), Titus Lual (10) and Ivan Muhwezi (10) – scored in double digits as well.

Oilers missed 16 of their 26 free throws, made 21 turnovers and out rebounded 49-54 but managed to persevere.

Blazers who missed Peter Cheng, were 5-for-20 from three on a night where everything that could go wrong did.

Geoffrey Soro scored just a point in the entire first two quarters, while the whole bench combined for just 9 points at fulltime.

New signing Julius Trumane looked out of sorts for extended stretches, and was torn inside out by Fayed Bbaale deep in the second half before finishing with no point to show on his debut.

It’s loss number four for last year’s finalist who will return to action on Sunday against Ndejje Angels at Lugogo.
