USM Alger were on Saturday night crowned CAF Confederation Cup champions after overcoming Yanga.
The Algerian side lost the second leg of the final 1-0, but won the tie on away goals rule having won 2-1 in Dar Es Salaam earlier.
Going into the second leg, Yanga needed to win by a margin of more than two goals.
And seven minutes into the game, Yanga took a lead in Algiers when Djuma Shabani converted from the spot after Saadi Radouani’s challenge on Kennedy Musonda.
Yanga, appearing in their maiden continental final, came tantalizingly close to their own momentous achievement after Djuma Shabani’s first-half penalty.
The hosts had a huge chance to level at the hour mark when they got a penalty of their own after Ibrahim Hamad fouled Tumisang Orebonye.
But USM Alger’s captain Zineddine Belaid failed to get his effort past Yanga’s goalkeeper Djigui Diarra.
But Yanga couldn’t get a needed second and the hosts held on before the final whistle at a packed Stade 5 Juillet stadium was greeted by wild celebrations.
