Uganda’s Adam Seiko has signed a summer league contract with the Golden State Warriors, this is official.
This is a huge opportunity for Seiko to showcase his ability in the 2023 NBA Summer League that tip off next month.
Seiko went undrafted in the recently concluded 2023 NBA Draft, but he will use this rare chance to convince Warriors and keep his NBA dream alive.
Seiko of San Diego State University, recently worked out with Los Angeles Lakers before the draft, but he went undrafted.
He becomes the second Silverbacks player to join an NBA team after Ishmail Wainright who is signed to Phoenix Suns.
It’s strong to note that Seiko is a brother to Arthur Kaluma, both featured for the Silverbacks at the Afrobasket 2021 in Kigali, Rwanda.
With San Diego Aztecs last season, he averaged 5.8 points and shot 45.8 percent behind the 3-point arc.
“One of the best shooters“
National team manager Albert Ahabwe says that Seiko is one of the best shooters he has ever seen.
“The guy is simply one of the best shooters I’ve ever seen. He also has a great Basketball mind and is a stand out defender,” Ahabwe told The-SportsNation.
“He’s the prototypical Golden State Warriors player that can guard both guard positions while shooting a high clip for the 3pt line.
“More importantly, he’s a high character kid and had an incredible work ethic. This will go a long way in giving him a shot at a league deal.
“The road of an undrafted player to the NBA is often long and winding. But if anyone will grind the required miles, it’s Adam. And whatever the result of this, just him putting that jersey on and playing in the Summer League opens up very many other doors for him and other Ugandans that will follow after him.”
Who is Adam Seiko?
Adam Seiko was born on February 27, 1998 to purely Ugandan parents Eva Saira Ariko and Lt Col Juma Seiko.
Her Mother, Eva Saira migrated to United States while she was 22, and settled in Boston.
Eva is currently married to Patrick Ariko.
Eva, the mother, came to Kigali to watch her two sons play for the Uganda Men’s National Basketball Team (Silverbacks) at the 2021 Afrobasket.
Seiko also has two younger sisters Abigail and Anna Ariko.
Seiko played basketball at Sierra Canyon High in southern California before joining the San Diego State Aztecs.
What is the NBA Summer League?
The NBA Summer League is an off-season competition organized by the National Basketball Association.
NBA teams come together to try out different summer rosters instead of their regular season line-ups.
It’s strong to note that unsigned free agents are often signed to summer league deals, providing a chance to possibly be signed to a contract during the regular season.
Any team can sign the free agent after the league is over, not just the one he played for in summer league.
Back in 2010, Jeremy Lin, a Harvard graduate, was invited to play for the Dallas Mavericks summer league team despite being undrafted earlier in the year. In the 2010 summer league, Lin performed well and was later signed by the Golden State Warriors.
