Vipers title hopes were handed a huge blow following their 1-1 all draw against BUL FC in a game held at Njeru on Tuesday evening.

The Venoms scored in added time through a Karim Watambala penalty, after Yunus Sentamu was brought down in the area by Douglas Muganga.

Bul had earlier taken the lead in the 65th minute through Samuel Ssekamatte, who headed in a well delivered cross from youngster Reagan Kalyowa.

It was a frustrating day for Vipers, on a day their head coach Alex Isabirye was facing his former bosses and a big blow in their title quest.

The draw saw them drop to the second on 50 points, two below SC Villa who picked a vital 1-0 win over Blacks Power to go on top.

On tuesday, Vipers, who were on top looked the second best team on the day, against a side that had struggled in the past 12 games.

They failed to stump authority at Njeru and they looked blunt on many occasions in the final third.

Their forwards on the day Yunus Sentamu, Cromwell Rwothomio and Captain Milton Karisa were pickpocketed by the BUL defence that looked solid throughout the opening 45 minutes.

And it was the hosts, BUL FC that had the best chance at half time but Ssekamatte’s free kick was kept out by goalkeeper Fabien Mutombora.

Even after the break, it was BUL that showed early intent to score first.

And it paid off with five minutes past the hour mark through Ssekamatte, who headed in home a well delivered cross from Kalyowa to put his side ahead.

But after going a goal down, Vipers started opening up in their search for a come back.

Thehe introduction of Karim Ndugwa and Martin Kizza added in more life in their attacking force.

And late in added time, Vipers were awarded a late penalty after Muganga fouled Sentamu in the area.

From the resultant kick, Watambala stepped up and scored, a goal that keeps Vipers title hopes alive.

And on the final day, Vipers will need nothing but a win against Busoga United, and pray that leaders Villa drop points against URA in the final game at Mehta.
