St Mary’s Boarding Secondary School Kitende progressed to the final of the National Schools Football Championship after eliminating Amus College.

The defending champions needed shootouts after they were pegged back by Amus brilliance.

Kitende went ahead through Frank Katongole in the ninth minute, scoring a powerful effort after Amus failed to deal with a long throw-in from Justine Opiro.

But Amus got their equaliser few minutes later thanks to Allan Oyirwoth’s beautiful header.

Kitende were handed with a glorious opportunity to regain their lead from the spot after Ssenko Ssembatya handled the ball in the area.

But Olimi Nyarwa sent his penalty kick wide to ignite celebrations from Amus fans and well-wishers.

Both sides created some good chances from there on, but couldn’t be separated after regular time.

In shootouts, Ssembatya Sonko fluffed his penalty for Amus, and Kitende capitalized on that to win 5-3.

Derrick Kato, Habib Oloya, Ronald Madoi, Samuel Lukoya and Mutebi Hakim scored Kitende’s penalties.

Kitende will meet St Henry’s College Kitovu in Saturday’s epic finale.

Kitovu also needed shootouts to overcome Royal Giants High School Mityana in the first semifinal.
