Uganda Cup: Vipers set up final with Police

Tuesday
Uganda Cup semi final Return leg

Bright Stars 1- 0 Vipers
Aggregate (1-4)

Vipers have advanced to the final of the Stanbic Uganda Cup despite their 1-0 loss to Bright Stars on Tuesday.

Nelson Ssenkatuuka scored the only goal as Bright Stars picked victory but it wasn’t enough as his side had miserably lost 4-0 in the first leg at Kitende.

And the Venoms advance 4-1 on aggregate as they keep eyes on a double having sealed the League on last day of the season.

It is the third consecutive final for Alex Isabirye’s men and they will face Big League side Police FC in the final set for this Saturday at the Aki bua stadium in Lira.

On Tuesday, Isabirye made a couple of changes, introducing some players who had not played the previous games.

And at half time, Ssenkatuuka’s goal at the stroke of half time was the difference in a game that had less to admire from a Vipers side, that was already four goals ahead after the first leg.

Even in the second half, Vipers barely threatened and did more of the defending to guard their advantage.

And in the closing stages, Bright Stars huffed and puffed from there after, but couldn’t get another goal to cause a set back at Kavumba.

At the final whistle, it was all celebrations from all Vipers players and faithful as they reached a third consecutive final.

Vipers on course for a double.

After winning the Uganda Premier League on Saturday, Vipers are now on course of making history of winning the double for the first time in club’s history.

It has been a quick turn around of things for Isabirye, who only joined Vipers in march this year.

On his arrival, he found the club in a mess after the departure of Spanish gaffer Beto Bianchi, who had left the club winless in seven games.

But ever since his arrival, Isabirye put things right with his first success coming as a league title on the last day of the season over the weekend, where they snatched the title in Villa’s hands.

And heading to tuesday return leg against Bright Stars in the Uganda Cup, the job was all but done having thrashed the same side 4-0 at Kitende a week ago.

At Kavumba, he made a couple of changes in his team, resting some key players including Yunus Sentamu and captain Milton Karisa.

And it worked out – despite conceding a Ssenkatuuka strike in the first half, they did just enough in the second half to get the job done.

They will now face Police FC in the finals, set for this Saturday at the Aki bua stadium in lira.

And they will have all eyes on a double to make history at the Kitende based club.
