Uganda Cup: Police Knock Out Adjumani to Reach Finals

Police FC have become the first team to advance to the finals of this year’s Stanbic Uganda Cup final despite their 2-1 defeat to Adjumani on Friday.

Police FC took the lead at the stroke of half time through Samuel Kayongo, a goal that turned gold for them.

The visitors later scored in the second half through Basani Safi (penalty) and Sadiq Nasru, but couldn’t go through.

And Police, despite their 2-1 loss to Adjumani on Friday qualify on away goals rule, having won the first leg by 1-0 at Kavumba last week.

They become the first team to reach the finals that will be held in Lira this year at the Aki bua stadium.

At halftime, Kayongo tapped home a Denis Kalanzi well delivered pass in the 44 th minute, a goal that proved the difference before the break.

But after the break, the hosts returned back the better side and they scored two quick.

First, Basani levelled matters from the spot in the 55th minute before Nasru put them ahead seven minutes later.

And Police’s goalkeepers coach Faisal Kanene was shown red after he tried to express his discontent with a controversial decisions from the centre referee.

But despite all the pressure, Police held on to advance to the final stage.

They will be hoping for the better as the Uganda Cup is the only way for Winning silverware for the Cops.

The other semi final game will see Bright Stars hosting Vipers in the second leg next week, but the Venoms have an upper edge having won the first meeting 4-0 at Kitende.
