Nigeria have progressed to the ongoing FIFA U20 World Cup round of 16 in Argentina with a game spare.

The Flying Eagles beat Italy 2-0 in their second Group game at Estadio Malvinas thanks to Salim Lawal and Jude Sunday’s goals.

Italy were the better team in the first half and created numerous chances including one that rattled the crossbar.

But they couldn’t replicate that display in the second half.

Lawal headed in from unguarded net after a lofty delivery from Emmanuel Umeh who had left the keeper on the ground at the byline after the hour-mark.

Nigeria got the second at the death from a counter attack through Jude Sunday who converted from a tight angle.

The win is the second in two games for Nigeria who beat Dominican Republic 2-1 earlier.

They reach the knockout before facing other group D opponent Brazil on May 27 at Estadio Diego Maradona in La Prata.

Brazil will give them a big test, and will come into this game off the back of a 6-0 win over Domican thanks to goals from Savio, Marcos Leonardo, Jean, Giovane, Marlon Gomes and Matheus Martins.
