Olila High School secured their first wins of the UCA T20 league this season thanks their comfortable double header victories against Wanderers on Saturday.
Olila went into the game with zero points having lost their opening two games to neighbors Soroti City, but they were a team unplayable on Saturday as they took on Sam Walusimbi’s side at the Jinja Cricket Oval.
After Wanderers turning up late for the morning, the Overs were reduced to 14 and the eastern giants went for the ball after winning the toss. 16-year-old Malisa Ariokot was in a mood not likeable by their opponents as she claimed 3 wickets.
Ariokot’s wickets added to opener Kevin Amuge and Naome Amongin both with one apiece plus Asumini Akurut’s run out were enough for Olila to restrict the opposition’s score to 61 runs.
Immaculate Nandera with an unbeaten 19, Jimia Mohammed (13) and Ariokot with 11 not out led the chase and it was achievable in the 11th Over. It was a no brainer when Ariokot won the player of the match in that game.
While Wanderers put up a fight in the morning, it was a sailing for Olila in the afternoon one.
Walusimbi’s team opted to bowl when they won the toss in this one. They were able to pick seven wickets, but those came at the expense of 105 runs.
Mary Akello with no dismissal conceded 26 of those. Team captain Susan Kakai got 2 wickets including Racheal Acan who had stuck in the wicket, but the damage of 105 was one they couldn’t rectify.
Amongin (24), Achan (17), Iloku (16) and Amuge (12) were the run getters here.
While Rita Musamali and Sarah Walaza both with 21 tried to stage a fight in their innings, they were unable to track down the score. Amongin in this one was the catalyst. She plucked three wickets, including Musamali and Walaza.
Amongin took home the Player of the match award here.
It was another one sided affair in the game that was played in Entebbe as Damani bossed their double header against Pioneer.
The defending Champions needed just four Overs to chase down Pioneer’s 43 in the morning game, and they did that without losing a Wicket.
The opening pair of Gloria Obukor and Proscovia Alako got the job done with the latter notching 31 runs off 16.
That was after Julia Karungi picking 3 wickets. She won the player of the match award in this game .
And in the afternoon one, Alako again scored the most runs- 33. Ann Nyapendi (11) and Immaculate Nakisuyi (10) were the other double digit players.
But Victoria Pearls captain Consy Aweko won the Player of the match. The spinner bowled 4 Overs and picked one wicket while conceding five runs.
With a superior net run rate, Damani dislodge Soroti City from the top of the table while Olila go third.
