Sport-S beat UCU Doves in decisive game three on Sunday at Old Kampala to win the National Volleyball League title.
The victory marked an incredible comeback for Sport-S who trailed the best of three final series 1-0 after losing game one.
They won game two 3-1 on Saturday to force a decider which they consequently won on Sunday.
Sport-S won set one 25-23 before stretching their lead after easing into the second set 25-14.
And despite UCU threatening to knit a comeback, Sport-S closed out the third set 26-24 to ignite wild celebrations from the fans.
The victory snapped a long wait for Sport-S whose last league title goes way back in 2009.
And it’s their third league title having won the first in 2007.
“It’s really something good and significant,” Sport-S coach Benon Mugisha said.
“But those 14 years, it has been a process, you can’t just win a trophy without a plan.
“We have gone through a lot and faced a couple of challenges along the way including players being unavailable for trainings due to work commitments.
“And this win means that our team is going to another level.”
It’s a deserved triumph for Sport-S who finished the regular season as number one, losing just once (against UCU) in an 18-game season.
And they eliminated defending champions Orange Blockbuster (OBB) at the Semifinals to storm the finals.
For UCU, who eliminated KAVC in the semifinals, it has been a great improvement for a side that survived relegation the previous season.
KCCA wrapped the Women’s Serie A title on Saturday after beating Sport-S Ladies 2-0.
