Rugby: Uganda Veterans Fall To Kenya

Saturday, March 27
Uganda Vets 06 – 38 Kenya Vets

Aptly dubbed “Unfinished Business,” the first-ever veterans’ rugby game between Uganda and Kenya witnessed an impressive display of “veteran skill ” and “old-timer” determination from the two old foes, eventually culminating in a resounding victory for the visiting Kenyan team, who defeated their hosts 6-38.

The Uganda team, composed of seasoned veterans, fought valiantly during the game but could only manage to secure two successfully converted penalties to amass a total of 6 points.

On the other hand, the Kenyan old-stagers displayed their prowess with an exceptional performance. They scored an impressive six tries, three in each half, and successfully converted four of them, accumulating 38 points on the scoreboard and proving age has got nothing on them.

The travelling old timers registered the first points of the game, with three tries before Uganda’s old-hands secured their first three points through a penalty successfully converted by Charles Onen, going into the break with a score line of 3-19.

Coming into the second half, the veteran rugby cranes added another three points to their tally, making it six— but they could only put up that much.

As the game progressed, Kenya’s brilliance allowed them to build an insurmountable lead as they carved through the Ugandan defence to score three more tries in the second half.

With their six tries, the Kenyan vets sealed the victory against their Ugandan counterparts.

Though the scoreline did not reflect their true effort, the Ugandan side did put up a show to take pride in.

In the end, the “Unfinished Business” match sure did highlight the lasting bond between the two sides—Uganda and Kenya in the rugby arena although only one was able to walk away with the “mzee bragging rights”—Kenya.
