Our Saviour stunned title contenders UCU Canons in the National Basketball League encounter on Sunday at Abja Parks in Naalya.

Our Saviour deservedly won 61-55 in a game they led right from the word go.

They benefited from UCU Canons’ poor start to lead 15-06 after the first quarter, but the Canons cut the deficit to just a point at halftime.

Our Saviour won the third quarter 17-10 to establish an eight-point gap heading into the last quarter.

In the fourth, UCU’s Jerry Kayanga laid up to tie the game 55-55 with a minute and half on the clock.

But UCU fired blanks from thereafter, with Sam Gombya, Martin Kelly and Moses Mugisha sent on the line, and all perfectly converted as Our Saviour finished off with a 6-0 run.

Kelly and Henry Ssebagala scored 12 and 10 points respectively while Kenneth Mesho contributed 11 rebounds for Our Saviour.

Peter Sifuma’s double double of 14 points and 13 rebounds, and Rogers John Dauna’s 12 points proved not enough.

UCU missed all their 14 three point attempts, collected just 8 points off the bench and were out-rebounded 40-50.

This is loss number four for the 2019 NBL finalists who were earlier beaten by Ndejje University Angels, City Oilers and UPDF Tomahawks.

For Our Saviour, it’s their fifth win in eight league games.
